StreetView – Google is watching you

On May 2007 Google launched a new technology feature for Google Maps and Google Earth which is called Google StreetView. This technology provides panoramic views close to the streets in high class pictures. At first it was launched at the United States as a test-project, but now more and more countries and cities were included and Google is planning on more. The idea behind all was, that people can take a close look to those cities they may want to travel to.  At least a nice idea, but there is a quiestionable point aswell…

A lot of people got caught by Google’s photos in public while leaving strip clubs, sunbathing in bikinis or even engaging in activities visible from public property in which they do not wish to be seen publicly. It could be you aswell…

Google said that all photos were taken from public property. Google allows users to flag inappropriate or sensitive imagery for Google to review and remove, but will that be enough? You all know how fast pictures go all over the world at the web and if they are once at the web you can’t get them all back. So far Google admitted to save peoples privacy and publish all photos in an indecipherable way, while retouching the eyes and parts of the face. What do you think, would you like to see your own in that way all over the net? Or do you maybe think, Google have to ask you before making and publishing such photos from you? Or do they just retouch every single person at all? Well give me your opinions and feelings about it.
